⚕️Medical AI Starts to Take Off ⚕️

The École Polytechnique Fédérale of Lausanne (Switzerland), or EPFL, has released a large language model, or LLM, for medical use. Meditron, as they named it, is based on the open-source Llama 2. It has been trained on verified, high-quality medical data and has many features that can help medical workers:

  • It is a high-performance information source designed to democratize access to medical knowledge and help save lives

  • It exceeds other models in medical benchmarks, including GPT-3.5 and Med-PaLM.

  • Developed for enhanced clinical decision-making using curated medical data.

  • Focus on safety, transparency, and humanitarian needs in healthcare.

The way things are going, doctors, nurses, and other healthcare providers everywhere will soon be using standard AI-powered tools in their everyday practice. As of yet, there are no clear regulations on this other than those that might apply through the privacy provisions of HIPAA.

How would you feel about your doctor running your systems through their own medical GPT?

🌟 Unexpectedly Powerful AI Tools for Anyone

Recently, the Fitpreneur Network published an interesting list of their top AI tools. There were some unsurprising choices, such as:

  • 🎨 Dall-E 3: Enriches virtually any project in any industry by producing beautiful custom images based on text prompts in an easy interface.

However, there are some other unexpectedly useful apps here, such as:

  • 🗣️ Otter AI: Transcribes audio into text, creates summaries, and makes note-taking super easy.

  • 📧 Brevo: A powerful email app that helps generate signup forms, Facebook ads, and landing pages, saving you from analysis paralysis.

  • ✍️ QuillBot: An AI writing assistant that helps with paraphrasing and checking plagiarism and works with your favorite platforms such as Word, Gmail, Docs, and more.

  • 📊 AdCreative.ai: Helps you by generating engaging ads and posts based on your brand content on almost any platform.

These tools offer innovative solutions for a range of business needs. My verdict is that you might be missing out if you aren’t using AI in some way in your work. Nothing replaces the human touch, but there are AI tools that can make your workflows more efficient and enjoyable, too.

Nvidia's CEO Claims AI Will Surpass Humans by 2028

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang made astatement he made at the New York Times' DealBook Summit, in which he claims we are only five years away from AGI, or artificial general intelligence. This represents a point in which AI can learn autonomously and potentially surpass human intelligence.

Nvidia is currently the number one hardware maker for AI. Their GPUs (graphics processing units) are the most widely used by AI companies worldwide. Some main points from his talk:

  • He predicts "fairly competitive" AI, indicating rapid sector advancement.

  • Nvidia's growth has been fueled by AI hype, reaching a trillion-dollar market cap.

  • Nvidia's partnerships aim to aggressively advance AI in various industries.

Earlier this month, OpenAI was thrown into turmoil, reportedly because Sam Altman's leadership was taking the company too close to AGI, too fast. However, on Thursday, Microsoft’s president, Brad Smith, downplayed this idea, claiming that it is far from being a reality.

Some people fear the potential negative consequences of AGI, such as robots becoming autonomous. The way I see it, there are two kinds of people, those who say “please” and “thank you” to Alexa, just in case, and those who don’t!

😰 Is Open-Source AI Doomed? Troubles at Stability

Stability AI has been a pioneer in the open-source AI community. Their Stable Diffusion generative image AI is an incredible product and is completely free. Recently they even released a free image-to-video platform.

Yet, it looks like this pioneering company is in economic turmoil and might have to sell the company. Investors are definitely pushing for a leadership change. This might lead to their products becoming closed-source and for-profit. All this, despite a recent $50 million investment by Intel.

Up until now, Stability AI products presented developers around the world with ways of working freely on powerful image generation models. On the other hand, whoever buys Stability AI might go the way of Meta with Llama 2 and maintain the core parts of the product as open source while seeking other monetization methods.

Whatever the case, if you haven’t tried Stability’s star product, SDXL, maybe you should before it’s gone!
